Student Work Placement & Aged Care Programs

At Juniper, we are committed to creating a culture of continuous learning and development. We are proud to offer over 40,000 student placement hours each year, providing opportunities for students to gain hands-on aged care experience.

Our experienced and dedicated team is passionate about supporting students in their learning journey. We believe that learning is a two-way street, which is why we encourage students to engage with our team, ask questions and seek feedback.

We understand that learning is not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about developing practical skills. That’s why we provide students with the opportunity to put their learnings into practice in a real-world setting, working alongside our team to deliver high-quality care. We are committed to supporting our students every step of the way, providing them with the tools, resources and guidance they need to succeed.

“The staff have been so helpful. I also don’t get to see my grandparents much, so coming here has kind of given me that connection to older people and I’ve really enjoyed it.  I’d definitely consider working in aged care as an OT once I graduate.”

STELLA
Curtin University OT student

“I’m really impressed by the activities run by the therapy team here, and it’s been a great learning experience for me. I just love that we get to create relationships with the residents, and you get that satisfaction as well that you’re helping them improve each time you see them. I hadn’t considered working in aged care before doing this placement, but I’d definitely think about it now once I graduate.”

ALLISON

“I stepped into Juniper Riverslea originally as a student placement two years ago and I just fell in love with the place. I have such affection for the residents and the staff, it’s like my second home.”

SONIA SHARMA

“The team here are really supportive and make it really enjoyable every time I come here. I love talking to (the residents) and hearing their stories about when they were younger.”

Senior Citizenship Partnership Program

The first of its kind in Australia, the Senior Citizenship Partnership Program links Curtin University Medical School with Juniper Rowethorpe Retirement Living residents in a holistic approach to studying healthy aging. The Program gives medical students awareness of the opportunities and challenges of our seniors in society to help students better understand the older population with practical learning. The Program is a great initiative that promotes intergenerational connections and helps create a community that values and respects seniors.  It is an excellent example of how education can go beyond textbooks and lectures to create impactful and meaningful relationships that enhance the learning experience.
