Enrolled Nurse Sharan Khera brings equal amounts of professional knowledge, vitality and compassion to her much-loved role at Juniper Ella Williams in Noranda.
Before heading to Australia on a student visa in 2015, Sharan had already attained a Master of Physics degree in India and worked as a physics lecturer.
Passionate about further study and always boosting her skills, Sharan completed a Master of Business at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup before a shift to Adelaide to work as a carer while studying a diploma of nursing.
Not long after completing her diploma, the COVID epidemic gripped the world, and Sharan started a contract nursing role at a quarantine hotel in central Adelaide.
During the demanding role, Sharan and fellow medical staff checked on the mental wellbeing of those in hotel lockdown, took COVID swabs, attended to medication needs and more.
“It was actually very good, as I learned a lot about infection control and people’s wellbeing,” Sharan said.
Feeling that her home was back in Perth, Sharan returned in 2021 and started her enrolled nursing role at Juniper Ella Williams.
“It’s so good, I love coming to work – it’s like coming home,” Sharan said. “It’s fast-paced, you learn so much about time management – and when there’s time, I like talking to residents and hearing their stories.
“I’ve got to know all the generations across my working life, from working as a lecturer to aged care.”
Now on her way to becoming a registered nurse, the 40-year-old recently started her second semester of study and is excited about supporting Juniper customers at Ella Williams as a registered nurse.
“The passion is my study – I loved aged care, expanding my knowledge and I look forward to bringing my registered nurse skills to Juniper,” she said.
