Residents at Juniper Crystal Halliday recently swapped their usual Friday happy hour for paintbrushes and canvases as the home introduced a ‘paint and sip’ for the very first time.
Most residents had never heard of paint and sip before, but they threw themselves into it wholeheartedly. By the end of the session the feedback was glowing, “we need to do this again” and “it’s so relaxing” just two of the responses from residents who had a great time.
Among those picking up a brush was Pat, who spent her career as an art teacher. The session allowed Pat to connect with a hobby she is passionate about and was a reminder to everyone of the incredible life experiences Juniper residents bring with them to our community.
For Occupational Therapist Danielle Martin, one of the highlights was watching what unfolded between residents throughout the session. “It was really nice watching the residents chatting and reminiscing together, sharing laughs about the messes and mistakes,” she said.
Danielle added these moments of connection are exactly what activities like paint and sip are designed to create. “Paint and sip hits multiple aspects of wellbeing all at once, mental, emotional, social and creative,” she said. “It’s not just one thing, it’s everything together.”
The afternoon was such a success, paint and sip is already being pencilled in for a return at Juniper Crystal Halliday.
