Linda Parry recognised for exceptional student mentorship

Juniper Gerdewoonem registered nurse Linda Parry has been recognised for her outstanding support of nursing students, receiving the Majarlin Clinical Preceptor Award at last week’s Kununurra Recognition Awards.

Linda was nominated by two Majarlin students in recognition of the exceptional support, guidance and mentorship she provided during their clinical placements.

One of the students who nominated Linda said she was an “amazing nurse to work with throughout our entire prac” and that her impact on their experience was something they would always remember.

“She was incredibly knowledgeable and never hesitated to share what she knew,” the student said.

“Anytime we were curious about something or wanted to observe something new, she was there to involve us and explain each step with patience and clarity.”

The student also spoke about the atmosphere Linda created at Gerdewoonem, saying her laughter, personality and “endless supply of stories” made her shifts enjoyable.

“She had a natural way of making everyone feel comfortable and was always happy to have a chat,” she said.

Residnetial Manager Elvira Even was proud to share Linda’s award “Your dedication to supporting students and sharing your knowledge not only enriches their learning experience, but also reflects the values and culture we strive to uphold.”

We are incredibly proud to have staff members like Linda who are not only passionate about providing great care to our customers, but are also willing to share their knowledge and inspire the next generation of health professionals. Thank you Linda, for helping create such a positive experience for student nurses in Kununurra. We hope their time learning alongside you inspires more healthcare professionals to consider working in remote Western Australia and supporting older people in communities where access to services can be limited.

Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health, based at the University of Notre Dame’s Broome Campus, supports students through rural and remote health placements.

The student-nominated Majarlin Recognition Awards, recognise nursing and allied health clinicians, community partners and organisations who give their time to mentor and educate students during their placements.

Meaning “coming back” in Yawuru, Majarlin reflects the hope that students Kimberley experiences inspire them to return and contribute to remote health.

Congratulations Linda, on this well deserved recognition and for your important role in supporting the next generation of nurses.
