Kiran aims high with her aged care career

Juniper Elimatta Administration Officer Kiran Kaur has big career aspirations and is focused on her ultimate goal of managing a Juniper residential aged care site.

“I love the organisation, as they give you opportunities for career progression,” she said.

Originally from India, Kiran had already completed a Master of Arts in English, Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts before moving to Perth on a student visa with her husband in 2008.

Among her achievements since then, Kiran has completed a Certificate II in Security Operations, a Certificate III in Early Childhood and Care and a Diploma of Multimedia.

Her initial move into the aged care sector was as a part-time kitchenhand with Juniper, while also working at Perth Airport as an Aviation Protection Officer.

According to Kiran, the kitchenhand role provided her a solid understanding of the sector though aspects such as daily nutritional needs of customers, while working within a regulated, person-centred and collaborative care environment.

“It gave me a strong foundation in aged care… compassion, compliance, teamwork, and holistic care approaches – essential qualities for anyone pursuing a career in the aged care sector,” Kiran said.

Kiran later moved to an Administration Officer role at Juniper Cygnet in Bentley before settling into similar duties at Juniper Elimatta during the past two years.

Particularly fond of the mix of duties in her admin role, which includes greeting visitors, attending to phone calls, managing rosters, and ordering supplies, her overall enjoyment of working with Juniper always came back to one thing.

“I like to help people, it gives me great happiness – when anyone who comes to me, I will always try my best to accommodate what they need,” she said.

When not supporting others at Juniper, Kiran enjoys keeping up with the latest Bollywood music releases and travelling around Australia with her family. So far, Melbourne and Brisbane have proved a couple of the standout Aussie destinations for the Kaur family.

With considerable studies behind her, having just finished diplomas in business and leadership management, as well as the drive to support others, Kiran is on track to keep advancing her career.
