Juniper Guwardi Ngadu has been selected as a finalist for Health Team of the Year in the 2026 WA Rural Health Excellence Awards.
Rural Health West and WA Country Health Service announced the finalists this week, recognising the exceptional dedication, innovation and impact of health professionals working across rural and remote Western Australia.
As a finalist, the team has been recognised for their compassionate care:
This close-knit team of carers, nurses, and support staff has created one of the most respected aged care environments in the Kimberley. What makes the Guwardi Ngadu team exceptional is the genuine warmth and connection they share with residents. Elders are treated not just as clients, but as family.
In one of the most remote regions of Australia, the team provides essential, compassionate care that allows Elders to remain on Country, surrounded by their community, culture, and identity. The centre is a vibrant hub where families are welcomed, laughter is common, and programs such as gardening, art and karaoke support emotional, cultural, and social wellbeing.
Strong partnerships with Aboriginal Organisations, allied health providers, and local organisations ensure seamless continuity of care. Their collaborative, culturally informed practice creates wrap-around support that strengthens the whole community. This team sets a benchmark for rural aged care: grounded in respect, culture, and love.
“The team and I couldn’t be more excited and prouder to be selected for these awards. It’s a recognition of the team’s hard work and how much heart and skill they put into the care of our residents,” Guwardi Ngadu Residential Manager Belinda Storer said.
“What makes me especially proud is that our nomination came from the Fitzroy Crossing community. To be recognised as an integral part of caring for our older community members in the Fitzroy Valley is humbling.”
Juniper Care Director Angie Slater said she was extremely proud of all the Guwardi Ngadu team.
“This recognition is a testament to the teams unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment to delivering exceptional care every single day. This nomination reflects the impact our staff have on our community,” Angie said.
Juniper Guwardi Ngadu Residential Aged Care Home proudly collaborates with Elders and local community members, fostering a strong connection to community, culture and family. The home also partners with Language Groups, Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services, and Mangkaja Arts, where residents can go to the studio or work in the art space within the Juniper Guwardi Ngadu.
The Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, 14 March 2026, where Juniper Guwardi Ngadu will be introduced as a finalist and their inspiring contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of country communities will be shared.
Congratulations team!
