Each year, International Nurses Day (IND) recognises the incredible efforts of nurses across the globe and Juniper has a lot to celebrate when it comes to its nursing workforce.
This year’s IND theme is “Our Nurses. Our Future.” with the aim of showcasing the critical role a healthy nursing workforce plays in strengthening economies, improving health systems, and ensuring better outcomes for communities worldwide.
Juniper greatly appreciates its nursing workforce and recognises that Australia’s aged care sector now faces a workforce crisis, with a projected shortfall of at least 110,000 direct care workers by 2030.
To address this growing challenge, Juniper will continue its advocacy efforts for a comprehensive, medium-term workforce strategy. The strategy should support workers by improving housing options, streamlining the process for recognising overseas qualifications, competitive pay considerations and a reduction in workloads.
After speaking to a trio of nurses from across Juniper sites in the lead up to IND 2025, there is one constant and that’s the compassion they all have in caring for older Western Australians.
Registered Nurse Manpreet Kaur (30) at St David’s Aged Care Home in Mount Lawley shifted from biotechnology studies to nursing as it offered a much more fulfilling role where she could support others.
“I like the busy pace – I don’t want to sit down; I want to do things,” she said. “It’s the best, the residents, the staff, the management, everything.”
With a long-held interest in the nursing field, Registered Nurse Simranjit Singh Thind (25) at Juniper John Bryant Aged Care Home in Marangaroo made the move to nursing in aged care as he wanted a rewarding career.
“Working in aged care allows me to build meaningful connections with residents and make a positive difference in their daily lives,” Simranjit said. “It’s supporting people with compassion and dignity, especially during a time in their lives when they need it most.”
Enrolled Nurse Sharan Khera (40) started her professional life as a physics lecturer, but a passion for further study and an initial interest in becoming a carer has given her the perfect vocation and a workplace that feels like home.
“I like talking to residents and hearing their stories – they need that love and reassurance,” she said. “It’s so good, I love coming to work – it’s like coming home.”
On International Nurses Day 2025, we gratefully thank all the nurses across Juniper sites for their selfless dedication in providing quality care to our residents and clients.
