Funding win for Geraldton and Fitzroy staff accommodation

Support for older regional West Australians has been boosted with new Federal Government funding towards accommodation for staff at Juniper Hillcrest Residential Aged Care Home and Juniper Guwardi Ngadu Residential Aged Care Home.

Regional WA faces unique challenges in providing aged care services, such as the housing shortage and higher building and materials costs. Providing staff accommodation is big step towards attracting and retaining high quality staff to provide compassionate and expert care throughout the regions.

Juniper received $1.4 million towards building three homes for employees next door to Juniper Hillcrest Residential Aged Care Home in Geraldton. Juniper purchased land for the build earlier this year.

Juniper also received $1.1 million towards replacing two homes for employees next door to Juniper Guwardi Ngadu Residential Aged Care Home in Fitzroy Crossing that were impacted by Cyclone Ilsa two years ago.

“This announcement will strengthen Juniper’s position to keep older people in our regions connected to the people and places they love, as well as providing a home for our staff that provide compassionate and expert care,” Juniper CEO Russell Bricknell said.

“Older Australians deserve and need a stable workforce. The aged care workforce shortage is rapidly becoming one of the biggest challenges of the sector which impacts older people who rely on care.

“Providing quality, permanent accommodation for staff enables them to create a home in the place where they are located – rather than just staying there. When people are fully immersed in a location they contribute to the social and economic fabric of that community.”

The new funding was made by the Federal Government through the latest round of the Aged Care Capital Assistance Program (ACCAP).
