Juniper Cygnet residents have contributed to a spectacular community art installation at a shopping centre in East Victoria Park.
The sizeable artwork of a Prickly Moses shrub known to the Noongar people as Mindaleny features 3,000 compostable, hand-painted cups and more than 120 individually designed leaves.
Six residents from the aged care home in Bentley were part of several community groups who took part in the project including the Friends of Jirdarup Bushland, Kensington Secondary School and the Carlisle Scouts.
Supported by two Juniper staff members, the residents helped by hand-painting about 600 cups in vibrant shades of green and yellow across four one-hour dedicated group sessions over a three-week period.
The creative outlet brought great joy and a sense of purpose to the residents, as they were part of a project that connected them with the wider community.
One Juniper staff member said that the residents felt proud knowing that their artistic efforts would be seen by so many people.
Wrenscape was commissioned by shopping centre operator Hawaiian to create the collaborative art project to enable community members of all ages and abilities to be part of something big and bold.
The project also served to foster community connections and bring generations together through art.
The art installation will be on display at the Park Centre in East Vic Park (not far from the K Mart entrance) until Sunday 22 June 2025.
