Brian’s coastal connection

Growing up in Fiji, Home Care customer Brian Miller has always had a great affinity with the coast. When he told Juniper Community Support worker Tessa Ford he hadn’t been to the beach for five years, the two decided the next social outing had to be by the coast.

“On social outings we go wherever Brian feels on the day. On this occasion when we took this photo, we went to Dolphin Quay to see the dolphins and the boats going by,” Tessa said.

“We go to different beaches around Mandurah for a walk and to get some sunshine and fresh air which assists with Brian’s overall wellbeing and quality of life.

“Getting out and about maintains Brian’s independence and freedom of choice.”

Brian and Tessa both enjoy spending time together, and as a Community Support Worker Tessa has the privilege of hearing Brian’s life stories.

“Brian has a great sense of humour and a down-to-earth personality,” Tessa said.

Tessa said she loved the role of Community Support Worker because she got to make a real difference in people’s lives, helping older people live more comfortably and with dignity in their own homes.

“Knowing that my care brings smiles and improves someone’s day is the biggest reward and what keeps me passionate about this work.”
