Benefits of a Podiatrist for Home Care

If you’re a Juniper Home Care customer, the benefits of accessing our aged care podiatry services are endless. A podiatrist can help you with:

  •  General foot assessment to spot and issues and see where they can help.
  •  Diabetic foot assessment, including testing your sensation.
  •  Advise and provide regular nail care and general foot care.
  •  Recommend footwear for issues, such as swollen feet or needing more supportive shoes to reduce falls.
  •  Look after foot wounds.

How do you know if you will benefit from seeing a podiatrist?

If you’re an aged care customer, seeing a podiatrist can be beneficial if you experience any of the following symptoms or conditions related to your feet, ankles, or lower legs. Here are some signs that it might be a good idea to see a podiatrist:

  • Persistent foot pain
  • Foot injuries
  • Changes in foot shape or appearance’
  • Diabetes
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Numbness or tingling in the feet
  • Difficulty walking or standing
  • Heel pain or plantar fasciitis
  • Have swelling or inflammation
  • Have poor circulation

If you’re experiencing any of the above, your Juniper Customer Care Lead will work with you to create a Care Plan so you receive the right services to achieve your goals.

Perhaps you want to be able to catch the bus to get to your favourite activity but the step onto the bus is too daunting? Our physiotherapist can work on strength and balance, while other members of our allied health team like an occupational therapist can help find the right aids and our podiatrist can recommend on which footwear would be best to provide you with support and stability whilst you are out.

The benefit of having an in-house allied health team

At Juniper having our own Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Podiatrists means we have great communication and collaboration, better efficiency as we can refer internally, and continuity of care. It is also cheaper for our customers to go in-house than source an external allied health service.

Our Juniper clinical team have regular meetings where we discuss different customers’ issues so that we can have the best unified approach to solving an issue. Because we have in-house allied health professionals and nurses, it means you don’t need to shop around if you need to be seen by another discipline as we can refer internally to make it a seamless process.
