Armchair travel: bringing culture to Juniper residents

When our residents can’t travel the world, we bring culture and adventure to our residential aged care homes instead!

On Tuesday, August 15, to celebrate Indian Independence Day, our wonderful staff at two of our Juniper Residential Aged Care Homes held ‘Armchair Travel’ sessions inspired by Indian culture, food and traditions.

At Juniper Sarah Hardey in Martin, our lovely Juniper physiotherapist Nikita whipped up her delicious chickpea curry for residents, who not only got to watch her in action as she prepared but also enjoyed a taste at the end.

To get into the spirit of the day, staff set up a display of the diverse range of traditional Indian clothing and jewellery, and also dressed the part!

Meanwhile, Curtin University students undertaking their placements at our Juniper Annesley home in Bentley held an Armchair Travel session for residents, which included cooking (and then tasting!) Indian Bhajiyas, talking about Indian culture, admiring traditional Indian shawls and trying on some beautiful Bindiya jewellery.

To cap off celebrations, staff (who also dressed the part!) and residents enjoyed a delicious Indian feast for lunch that included Tandori chicken and lamb Korma served with turmeric rice and naan bread.

We LOVE celebrating cultural diversity across our Juniper sites and it’s wonderful to see our staff get involved and share their culture and traditions with our customers.
