Making The Move To A New Home Care Provider

Choosing the right home care provider for you or your loved one is an important decision but sometimes things don’t quite work out

Home care cost would be one of the things many would consider first: check your existing home care agreement so you are aware of any relevant conditions such as notice periods or exit fees.

Your current home care provider is obligated to help you with the move so ask them about any fees and charges associated with making the switch.

Plan Ahead

Take some time to research potential new home care providers before you discuss an end date with your current provider. Look carefully at their fees, charges and conditions to make sure the service is right for you. Trustworthy and quality providers like Juniper will be transparent about all costs and will take the time to talk this through with you before you make your decision.

While aged care organisations are allowed to charge certain fees to cover their costs, they must be clearly stated in the Home Care Agreement. It’s also worth remembering that not all providers charge for the same things. For example, Juniper does not have any exit fees.

What to look for in a good home care provider

Consider what is important to you in terms of customer service. Will you have access to a dedicated support staff member to answer your questions? Is the provider experienced? How long have they been operating and what training and qualifications do their care staff have? Will they take the time to clearly explain the Home Care Agreement to you and work closely with you on your care plan?

How do I make the move?

Let your current provider know the date you will be ending services with them. This is known as the ‘cessation date’ and again make sure you are working to their notice period, stated in your Home Care Agreement. It is always a good idea to give plenty of notice to ensure a smooth transition.

Once you have agreed on an end date with your current provider, you have 56 days from this date to sign up with your new provider. You can apply to My Aged Care for a 28 day extension if needed, however if you do not enter into a new agreement within this time-frame, your home care package will be withdrawn.

Remember to call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to have your referral code re-activated. You will need to give this code to your new provider before receiving their services.
